I think I want to take my kids camping again this year. It will be great to do it before Megan heads off to college.
I took the kids camping for a weekend out in Santa Cruz a couple of years ago. It was pretty crazy, stressful, and hilarious. You can read all about it here.
It involved showing up at the campsite at 1 o'clock in the morning and taking at least 20 minutes to find our spot in the dark. And Pooka dropping our pillows on the ground countless times.
There was also that episode with the raccoon that wouldn't go away in the middle of the night so we ended up sharing the tent with one of the dogs who wouldn't quit with the damn barking. And this was after Megan had gone in and out of the tent trying to shut the dog up, even throwing shoes at the bitch (you know, female dog), not knowing that someone had left the tube of toothpaste right by the tent door. UNCAPPED. Yup. All over.
The next day was much better with Cheetos for breakfast and then bacon with rice by noon. I was finally able to get the fire going with just matches to light up the logs. Maybe a bit of paper. But no extra fuel stuff. Booyah!
My dogs almost had a small dog for breakfast at the beach. They saw that sucker from afar and made a run for it. The owner desperately saved her dog by pulling on the leash and dangling her dog in the air away from my dogs' seemingly fierce attack. I guess better she kill her own dog than mine do it. I'm surprised her dog's neck didn't break being hung like that. But I don't blame her. My dogs were pretty huge compared to hers.
Anyway, we'll see. The weather's been pretty weird lately, bipolar like my ex-husband's ex-wife (no, I'm not talking about me -the OTHER one). Most likely we'll go during summer when the kids are out of school. Maybe I'll drag my dad with me when he visits next month. That will definitely be more challenging than bringing all the dogs and kids in the world!
